RESTORATION

Antique Furniture · Upholstery · Historic Finishes

Conservation-led work for private collections, designers and institutions, from structural repair and traditional upholstery to period surfaces and historically informed patination.

STRUCTURE & MATERIAL

Preserve what matters.

Every piece is considered as a whole: its construction, joinery, veneers, carved elements, previous interventions and surviving surface.

Work is limited to what the object genuinely requires stabilizing weakness, repairing failed joints, reconstructing losses where necessary and retaining original material wherever possible.

UPHOLSTERY

Built from the inside out.

Traditional upholstery is treated as structure, not decoration. Webbing, springs, hessian, horsehair and cover fabric are assessed individually and retained wherever sound.

Where replacement is necessary, compatible materials and period-appropriate methods are used to rebuild support, comfort and profile without altering the character of the piece.

HISTORIC SURFACES

Age should be preserved, not erased.

Original finishes are cleaned, consolidated and revived wherever possible, retaining the wear, oxidation, colour variation and surface history that give an object its character.

Where losses or later damage require intervention, new work is carefully integrated through traditional finishing methods so it belongs visually to the original surface without falsifying it.

PERIOD RE-CREATION

New work, historically convincing.

When an original object is missing, unsuitable for use or unavailable, a newly made piece can be finished to sit convincingly within a historic interior or collection.

Fresh timber, new joinery and modern construction are transformed through controlled wear, staining, patination, traditional finishes and period-appropriate hardware — creating depth, age and visual coherence without resorting to theatrical distressing.

CUSTOM DECORATIVE FINISHES

Made for the piece, not applied from a formula.

Bespoke finishes are developed specifically for the furniture and the interior it will inhabit. Colour, depth, texture and patination are built in layers to create a surface with character rather than a uniform factory finish.

From newly built cabinetry to existing furniture, each finish is individually composed and applied by hand.
